Am I eligible to join the Motability Scheme?

To be eligible to lease through the Motability Scheme, you must be in receipt of one of the following allowances:

Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP).

You will need to have at least 12 months remaining on your allowance when you apply.

Can I get a Blue Badge?

The Blue Badge scheme provides a range of parking benefits for disabled drivers and passengers. Blue Badges are issued by your local authority independently. The Blue Badge Scheme provides a national arrangement of parking concessions primarily for people with severe walking difficulties who travel either as drivers or passengers. Parking Concessions provided under the scheme Badge holders are entitled to the following general concessions on-street.

Parking free of charge and without time limit at parking meters on-street and "pay and display" on street parking.
Exemption from limits on parking times imposed on other users.
Parking on yellow lines for up to three hours in England and Wales, or without any time limit in Scotland.

Disabled tax disc (Vehicle Excise Duty)

Some disabled people can get Exemption of VED for one car. You, or someone you nominate, may have a free ‘tax disc' if you get:

high rate DLA mobility component
enhanced rate PIP mobility component
armed forces independence payment
war pensioners supplement

As a general rule, those of our customers who have become disabled after retirement date, will not receive the Road Fund Licence exemption. Full details are available on DVLA leaflet V188. Do I have to pay VAT ?

We get many calls about the VAT status of the vehicles. As a general rule, if the vehicle is purchased for the use of a person who uses a wheelchair, the VAT will be charged at 0% i.e. no VAT will be charged. If the vehicle is purchased for a commercial purpose e.g. Private Hire, Taxis etc. then VAT will be charged on top of our prices shown at 20%.

Will I fit in the vehicle (WAV)?

As general guide please use the maximum internal headroom measurement as a guide to whether you will fit in properly. This is given on the vehicle information. This is the starting point. To check your height while sat in your wheelchair you will need someone to assist you with this. Make sure you are sat comfortably in your wheelchair with your usual cushions etc. Position the wheelchair so the back wheels are parallel to a wall, then lay something flat like a book horizontally across the top of your head. Then measure from the floor to the top of your head. This will give you your floor to head height – this should be less than the internal headroom measurement of the vehicle you are considering. For other measurements, please ring us for the specific vehicle you are interested in.

What are the Advantages of the Nearly New WAV Scheme?

Not all used WAV’s are available on the Motability scheme, only a selected few are made available these are shown on our website by having the Motability logo in the description. The Nearly New Scheme offers the following advantages ;

As with all Motability lease schemes, insurance, servicing, and maintenance, RAC Breakdown Cover and tyre and windscreen replacement are all included for worry free motoring.
Three year lease with 60,000 mileage allowance.
Offer good saving on the equivalent new wheelchair accessible vehicle from NIL advanced payment.
All vehicles are no more than two and a half years old.
